Evening with Fr. David Pettingill

This past Thursday evening, May 22nd, we had the first of two lectures by Fr. David Pettingill. He spoke to a gathering of about forty people who had come from all over the Bay Area to join us in preparing to open the “Year of St. Paul,” which will officially begin on June 28th this year in commemoration of the 2,000th anniversary of his birth.

Fr. Pettingill’s warm style, ease with Sacred Scripture, and expertise as a professor added up to a thoroughly enjoyable experience as we listened and discovered more about Paul, whose love for Christ and zeal for the Gospel had him traverse the then-known world not once but THREE times.
Paul’s surrender to the Risen Lord Jesus and his response to the revelation of Christ became the driving force of his life and caused him to become a prolific writer and speaker. Fr. Pettingill discussed the “letter” as a literary form and introduced the topics he will cover in next month's talk, which will delve into the principal themes of Paul’s letters to the Galatians, Romans, Corinthians, and Ephesians.

Spontaneous questions and sharing among the lively participants, an ample display of supplementary readings and CDs, and a wonderful pictorial art exhibit of the Apostle Paul were other appreciated features of the evening.

Be sure to join us for Fr. Pettingill’s second lecture on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 PM.
